Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Programme

Chinese Government Scholarship—Bilateral Program includes a full or partial scholarship established by MOE in accordance with educational exchange agreements or MOUs between Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities and international organizations.

CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

Chinese Government Scholarship supports the following 7 programs.

Bilateral Program

This includes full or partial scholarships in accordance with educational exchange agreements or MOUs between the Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities and international organizations. It supports undergraduate programs, master’s programs, doctoral programs, general scholar programs and senior scholar programs.

Applicants shall apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study in their home countries.

a. Bilateral Program supports undergraduate programs, master’s programs, doctoral programs, general scholar programs and senior scholar programs. Applicants should consult the dispatching authorities in their home countries for the programs available.

b. All the undergraduate programs, most graduate programs and most non-degree programs are instructed in Chinese. Certain universities offer English-taught graduate programs and non-degree programs. c. Duration of the scholarship which covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study, as specified in the Admission Letter, cannot be extended in general.

Scholarship Coverage

A. Full scholarship includes

-a waiver of fee for registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic textbooks;

-free on-campus dormitory accommodation;

-monthly living allowance;

-one-off settlement subsidy;

-outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China;

-one-off inter-city travel reimbursement.

B. Partial scholarship includes one or some items of the full scholarship items.

Application Receiving Agency and Deadline

Applicants should apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study in their home countries between January and early April. Please contact the dispatching authorities for the specific deadline of each year.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

– be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

-be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;

-be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

-be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

-be under the age of 45 and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study when applying for general scholar programs;

-be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

Application Procedure

a. Applicants consult the dispatching authorities for overseas study in their home countries for the details and requirements of Bilateral Program and submit the application as required.

b. Once recommended by the dispatching authorities, candidates shall contact their target university for Admission Letter.

c. Recommended candidates must finish the online application procedure at CSC Online Application System for International Students. Please go to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click Application Online for International Students, complete the required information, submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online and print a hard copy.

e. A package of complete application documents must be submitted to the dispatching authorities in their home countries before the deadline. (Please check Application Documents for the detailed checklist.)

f. CSC does not accept any individual application other than the recommended applications from the dispatching authorities. Candidates with Admission Letter will be placed in the host university; those without Admission Letter should follow CSC’s placement.

Application Documents (in duplicate)

a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(in Chinese or English).

b. Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

c. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

d. A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.)

e. Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.

f. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings and two other works.

g. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

h. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

i. Applicants with Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package.

j. Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package.

NOTE: The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate). No application documents will be returned.

Approval and Notification

a. Recommended application documents from dispatching authorities will be reviewed by CSC. The applications will be regarded as invalid if the application documents fail to meet the requirements or the applicants are ineligible.

b. Qualified applications will be forwarded to universities for recruitment. CSC reserves the right to make necessary adjustments on the university options, specialties, program categories and duration of study. CSC will forward the nominations to universities for recruitment approval. The application enclosed with Admission Letter will be forwarded directly to the host university which granted the Letter.

c. Scholarship applicants accepted by Chinese universities will be officially awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship with the approval from CSC. Each applicant can only be granted one scholarship program.

e. CSC will send, before July 31st, the List of Scholarship Winners, Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the Chinese Embassy (Consulate General), who will forward the documents to the dispatching authorities for overseas study or the scholarship winners.

f. Students are not permitted, in general, to apply to change their specialties, host universities or the duration of study as specified in the Admission Letter once they agree to accept the scholarship.

g. If applicants fail to register before the deadline for registration, their scholarship will not be reserved.
