Our 4-day Global Citizens Challenge is an online, dynamic program designed to bridge cultural divides and provide young people with a transformative, hands-on and collaborative way to meet and collaborate with peers from around the world. By participating you will learn skills in digital collaboration, social impact and cultural understanding. In addition, you will learn about future career-building opportunities directly from professionals.
With your peers, you will be building cultural awareness as a global citizen. Skills gained will include how to work collaboratively with others from diverse backgrounds, leadership and communication, as well as learning more about travel, tourism in relation to sustainability, inequality and technology.
The Global Citizens Challenge will consist of interactive Zoom hangout calls with other participants, team based group work with your peers, presentations and panel discussions from amazing speakers from the travel and tourism industry, and immersive brainstorming and collaborative work through an interactive virtual space. In addition, participants will have access for 3-months to a self-directed ‘Make an Impact’ course which teaches you about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how you can make an impact in your life and in your world!
Our participants are in every time zone around the world. Therefore, the event has been designed with flexibility. Participants join at all hours between school, work, and other commitments – and some have so much fun that they stay on 24/7!!
What is a brief overview of the agenda for the 4-day program?
The Global Citizens Challenge will consist of interactive Zoom hangout calls with other participants, presentations and panel discussions from great speakers, and immersive brainstorming and collaborative work on the Miro Board. Participants will also be encouraged to utilize the 3-month self-directed ‘Make an Impact’ course which ties everything into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
What are the online platforms that will be used for the Global Citizens Challenge?
Since this is a program run entirely online, we’ll be using a variety of different virtual platforms, including Miro Board, Zoom video conferencing, and Crew.
What if I’m unfamiliar with the technology?
Don’t worry! These tools do not require any special skills. In our program we provide detailed instructions and tutorials so that you can learn to use each one right away 🙂
What skills will I learn from this Global Citizens Challenge?
You will be building a toolkit of cultural awareness as a global citizen. Skills will include how to work collaboratively with others from diverse backgrounds, leadership and communication, as well as learning more about travel, tourism in relation to sustainability, inequality and technology.
Eligibility:
Young people from Canada, United States, and globally from ages 15-20 can apply for the Global Citizens Challenge. We are also accepting nominations from educators, program leaders, and organizations to put forward youth who would be a good fit for this program.
Selection Criteria:
We will select up to 100 youth (50 based in North America, 50 based worldwide). We seek self motivated, diverse participants who bring to their work passion, energy and a desire to learn. We don’t measure people by traditional credentials, but rather we are seeking people that align to our values:
- You value the power of travel (even if you haven’t had the opportunity to travel yet!)
- You are passionate about making a change
- You are eager to learn about different cultures directly from peers with different backgrounds
- You want to work with like-minded people
- You wish to grow as a young professional in an online experience
- You wish to grow personally through this opportunity, including understanding yourself and your passions
